Understanding the Human in the Aviation System Course Overview The ATPL Human Performance & Limitations (HPL) course provides a deep understanding of how human capabilities and limitations affect flight safety, performance, and decision-making. It bridges psychology, physiology, ergonomics, and operational human factors, forming the foundation for CRM, TEM, SOP compliance, and airline safety culture. This subject explains why incidents happen, not just how — and is one of the most operationally relevant ATPL subjects throughout a pilot’s career.
