Emirates is in the middle of one of its most aggressive pilot recruitment drives in recent history. The airline is targeting 1,500 new pilots over the next two years, with a significant portion of those roles expected to be filled in 2026. If you have been considering a move to Dubai, this is the window.
What Is Driving the Hiring Push
Emirates operates a fleet of over 250 aircraft flying to more than 150 destinations globally. With new Boeing 777-X deliveries beginning and continued network expansion, the airline needs experienced flight crew at scale. Since 2022, nearly 2,000 new pilots have already joined. The 2026 push continues that momentum.
The global roadshow is visiting over 40 cities, following recent recruitment events in Italy, Norway, Finland, and Sweden. Emirates runs continuous recruitment — unlike airlines with annual intake windows, applications are reviewed daily through the Emirates Group Careers portal.
What Emirates Is Looking For
Emirates recruits experienced pilots only. There is no cadet pathway directly through the airline. The minimum requirements in 2026 are:
ICAO ATPL (unrestricted)
Minimum 2,000 total hours on jets of 20+ tonnes MTOW
Class 1 medical certificate
ICAO English Level 4 or above
In practice, competitive applicants are arriving with 2,500+ total hours and ICAO English Level 5 or 6. Piston, turboprop, rotary, and simulator hours do not count toward the jet hour minimum.
For Direct Entry Captain roles, the bar is higher — a minimum of 3,000 total hours with multi-crew jet experience.
The Recruitment Process
The process runs across six stages from initial application to contract offer, typically taking between four and eight months. Stages include an automated screening, the COMPASS computer-based assessment, HireVue video interview, a simulator assessment in Dubai, a final interview, and medical clearance. Approximately 40 percent of candidates are filtered at the COMPASS stage alone.
One thing that catches many applicants off guard: Emirates requires a professionally formatted Gulf-style CV — studio headshot, specific layout, logbook breakdown by aircraft type. A European or regional airline CV will often fail the initial screening.
The Package
The Emirates package remains one of the most competitive in global aviation. First Officers start at approximately $101,000 annually, entirely tax-free. Captains range from $144,000 to over $320,000 depending on seniority and fleet. Beyond salary, the package includes:
Company-provided housing (typically a 3-4 bedroom villa)
Chauffeured transport
42 days annual leave
Family travel benefits
Education assistance for dependants
Profit-sharing
Access to the Emirates Platinum Card for wellness and leisure
All pilots are based in Dubai. There are no other crew bases.
Is This the Right Move For You?
The Emirates lifestyle suits pilots who are ready to relocate, prioritise financial progression, and want wide-body experience on A380 and B777 fleets. New hires typically begin on the B777 before transitioning to the A380 with seniority.
If you are currently building hours at a regional or narrow-body carrier and approaching the 2,000-hour mark on jets, start preparing your application now. The process is long and the competition is real. Preparation is the difference.
