Cathay Pacific Is Hiring 3,000 Staff in 2026: Cadet Pilots, Cabin Crew and More

May 21, 2026

Cathay Pacific marked its 80th anniversary with a recruitment announcement that signals serious long-term intent. The Hong Kong carrier is hiring 3,000 new employees in 2026 to support a HK$100 billion investment programme spanning fleet upgrades, new cabin interiors, expanded lounges, and digital innovation across its global network. The recruitment covers multiple departments including cadet pilots, flight attendants, cargo officers, customer care advisors, customer services officers, and lounge service teams. For pilots early in their careers and cabin crew considering a move to Asia-Pacific, this is one of the more significant opportunities in the region this year.

What Cathay Is Investing In

The HK$100 billion commitment is not a marketing figure. It includes active projects at Hong Kong International Airport, a debut lounge planned at JFK in New York, and a full fleet resourced and flying for the first time since the pandemic years. Cathay has confirmed that all aircraft in its fleet are now operational and that hiring has stabilised into a steady, normalised rhythm rather than the reactive post-pandemic scramble that defined 2022 and 2023.

That normalisation matters. It means a more professional, structured recruitment process and a more stable environment for new joiners.

The Cadet Pathway

For pilots who are earlier in their training journey, Cathay Pacific's cadet pilot programme remains one of the more structured entry points into wide-body flying in Asia-Pacific. The 2026 intake reflects genuine fleet demand, not speculative hiring.

Cadet programmes at Cathay have historically required candidates to self-fund or take on a training loan, with repayment structured over a bonding period. Requirements include strong academic results, a clean medical record, and ICAO English proficiency. The assessment process includes aptitude testing, group exercises, and simulator evaluations.

Cabin Crew and Ground Roles

For cabin crew applicants, Cathay Pacific offers routes to a premium long-haul operation based in one of Asia's most connected cities. Hong Kong as a base provides regional access across Asia that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.

Ground roles in cargo, customer services, and lounge operations also form part of the 2026 intake, reflecting the airline's commitment to building across the full operation rather than just flight crew.

If an Asian-Pacific base is part of your long-term plan, Cathay's 2026 hiring window is worth tracking closely through their careers portal.
